All about your weekend retreat

Your course

Here is an exciting opportunity for you to express your emotions, moods, sentiments and even your innermost feelings in purely abstract terms using the combined techniques of fabric collage with both machine and hand embroidery.

Richard will give several keynote presentations throughout the weekend when he explains the formal elements of the lines, shapes and colours have been used by artists and crafts men and women for such expressions throughout history and from many cultures.

You will begin the weekend by making a variety of pictures in paper collage that express your diverse moods. From these preparatory exercises you will choose one to develop into fabric collage and machine and hand stitching. And you will take home your own unique piece of fabric collage art.

This course is ideal for improvers who are familiar with dropping the feed dogs and using the darning or free motion foot on their machines, and want to take their knowledge of these techniques further.

Your tutor

Richard is an artist and art historian. He has painted in oils and watercolours for many years and is now exploring acrylics.

Concurrently he continues to develop his textile work which involves fabric collage with both machine and hand stitching. In short: he ‘paints’ with fabric and thread. Richard has written seven books on drawing, design and embroidery, and regularly runs workshops and gives lectures on drawing and textiles topics.

Just home from an amazing residential course with the talented Cas Holmes. Everything was so easy, from booking, the meet and greet, information packs and support whilst away. The hotel was perfect and Liza Jones did a brilliant job keeping everything running smoothly. I am already researching my next course.
