All about your weekend retreat
Calligraphy is an enjoyable and wide-ranging skill, from pure craft pen lettering to colourful, creative artworks. On this course beginners will learn an alphabet for use in writing short quotations with simple coloured backgrounds.
Modern pointed pen calligraphy is also possible on this course.
For more experienced participants, scripts can be fine tuned and explored experimentally, and used in the lay-out and design of short texts with coloured backgrounds.
All aspects of this course will have tutor-led projects with teaching on an individual basis and group demonstrations. Scripts will be selected from: uncial, foundational hand, italic – basic and variations – Roman / italic capitals and variations, carolingian and copperplate, amongst others.
Gaynor Goffe is a well-known calligrapher, with over 30 years’ teaching experience on full-time and short courses in Britain and abroad. She is a long-standing Fellow of the Society of Scribes & Illuminators and the Calligraphy & Lettering Arts Society. Gaynor gets beginners off to a sound start, and for everyone, she encourages good skills and a creative approach. She also works to commission and for exhibitions.

Why Our Customers Love Our Courses
Textile artist Annette’s beautiful work contributed to my decision to learn more about patchwork and quilting. Liza from Anglia Leisure Learning made sure everything ran smoothly – thank you Liza and Annette (Morgan the tutor); it was a wonderful weekend.
Most useful to learn new techniques, have good company and meet like-minded people; an inspiring stimulating and enjoyable weekend.
I really enjoyed the course and you did and excellent job organising it. The highlight was falling in love with sewing again, after a five year gap. Thank you!
I have attended two courses in the last six months. Excellent tutors and excellent venues. I’ve learnt so many new quilting techniques. Can’t wait until the next one.
Just home from an amazing residential course with the talented Cas Holmes. Everything was so easy, from booking, the meet and greet, information packs and support whilst away. The hotel was perfect and Liza Jones did a brilliant job keeping everything running smoothly. I am already researching my next course.
