All about your weekend retreat
Italian corded quilting, worked on two or more layers of fabric, involves yarn or cord threaded through a channel from the back, resulting in a pattern of raised lines on a flat background.
Trapunto, from the Italian for ‘to quilt’ is achieved by slitting and padding the underside of a quilt, resulting in raised areas. Sylvia will show you how to produce this 3-D quilting technique, so you can create beautiful designs with great depth. Corded and stuffed quilting looks complicated, but it is very easy to do. This course is all hand work, and is suitable for all levels, from beginners to advanced stitchers and quilters.
Sylvia will also introduce you to her easy version of Le Boutis reversible corded work which originates in the Provence region of France.
Sylvia Critcher trained at Goldsmiths College in fine art and textiles, and has taught adults a wide range of art and textile subjects for over 30 years. In 1997 she became a National judge for Grosvenor Shows, and since 2001 she has managed the judging at all their competitive events. She co-ordinated projects for Fabrications magazine from 2004-2012 and her book, Raised Stitch and Quilt has recently been published.

Why Our Customers Love Our Courses
Textile artist Annette’s beautiful work contributed to my decision to learn more about patchwork and quilting. Liza from Anglia Leisure Learning made sure everything ran smoothly – thank you Liza and Annette (Morgan the tutor); it was a wonderful weekend.
Most useful to learn new techniques, have good company and meet like-minded people; an inspiring stimulating and enjoyable weekend.
I really enjoyed the course and you did and excellent job organising it. The highlight was falling in love with sewing again, after a five year gap. Thank you!
I have attended two courses in the last six months. Excellent tutors and excellent venues. I’ve learnt so many new quilting techniques. Can’t wait until the next one.
Just home from an amazing residential course with the talented Cas Holmes. Everything was so easy, from booking, the meet and greet, information packs and support whilst away. The hotel was perfect and Liza Jones did a brilliant job keeping everything running smoothly. I am already researching my next course.
