All about your weekend retreat

Your course

Here is your opportunity to discover many professional tailoring secrets and how you can create a perfect fit.

You will focus on making a pair of well fitting trousers, but the techniques you learn will be applicable to other tailored pieces such as jackets, coats or blouses. By starting with making a toile that matches your own body measurements, you will learn how to amend or draft a pattern so that it gives you a perfect fit.

The toile you create will be adjusted, cut and fitted to match your specific measurements. And by making a pair of perfectly fitting trousers, you will cover a wide range of design elements, including how to cut and add pockets, sew a curved waistband, and produce your preferred leg styling – straight, boot-leg or slim.

Your finished trousers will fit you far better than an ‘off the peg’ pair, and your new skills will enable you to handle other bespoke tailoring projects.

Enjoy a weekend away from home, sewing with others who have a passion for well fitting clothes, while you take your dressmaking and tailoring skills to the next level, learn some couture tricks and techniques, and unearth fitting strategies and pattern magic.

Your tutor

Janice Croft has been sewing since a young child. She completed a Pattern Cutting course at the London College of Fashion and then went on to work for John Lewis’ fabric department.

Following this, she set up Croft Designs, making anything from wedding dresses to sofa covers. However, her true passion is in teaching, transferring her sewing skills to students from beginners to couture levels, throughout the country.

Your venue, food and accommodation

Just home from an amazing residential course with the talented Cas Holmes. Everything was so easy, from booking, the meet and greet, information packs and support whilst away. The hotel was perfect and Liza Jones did a brilliant job keeping everything running smoothly. I am already researching my next course.
