Stumpwork Embroidery Course

Weekend Residential Stumpwork Embroidery Course with Fleur Oakes

A weekend course exploring 3-D embroidery techniques in a 3 star hotel in Ipswich, Suffolk

Tutor: Fleur Oakes
Dates: Friday, 25 August – Sunday, 27 August 2017
Venue: Holiday Inn Copdock

Course Content

Stumpwork is a beautiful style of embroidery where stitching is raised from the surface to create a three dimensional effect. This course provides you with the opportunity to learn how to create unique flowers, leaves and insects. And it is ideal if you want to try stumpwork and have some experience in basic embroidery techniques.

Fleur will lead you through various steps, advising you on designing in needlelace, artistic technique and how to plan a project. You will be learning a wide range of skills, which are adaptable to any future work. Bring any ideas you may like to try; this is the perfect chance for you to challenge yourself in this creative form of embroidery with the support and assistance of a highly experienced tutor.

Fleur’s main interest is to expand her students’ techniques so that they create original three-dimensional embroidery. Her practice also involves lecturing and tutoring at private colleges, community groups and to medical students.

She is currently artist in residence with Imperial College where, by applying stumpwork techniques, she is helping surgeons become more proficient when they perform vascular key-hole surgery.
